Seattle indie rocker <a href=\"http:\/\/damienjurado.com\/\">Damien Jurado<\/a> and musician\/producer Richard Swift have inverted this idea.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>They&#8217;ve created a grand entrance for Jurado&#8217;s latest album <em><a href=\"http:\/\/damienjurado.com\/about\">Maraqopa<\/a><\/em> with the opening song &#8220;Nothing is the News.&#8221; The album explodes, like a supernova, with full-on psychedelic sound before settling into nine quieter tracks.<\/p>\n<p><div class=\"ose-youtube ose-uid-cfb45851c91dfe2b88bf72b640adbe04 ose-embedpress-responsive\" style=\"width:600px; height:550px; max-height:550px; max-width:100%; display:inline-block;\" data-embed-type=\"Youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allowFullScreen=\"true\" width=\"600\" height=\"550\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/iyhKQKtPLl4?feature=oembed&color=red&rel=0&controls=1&start=&end=&fs=0&iv_load_policy=0&autoplay=0&mute=0&modestbranding=0&cc_load_policy=1&playsinline=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; encrypted-media;accelerometer;autoplay;clipboard-write;gyroscope;picture-in-picture clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen referrerpolicy=\"origin\"><\/iframe><\/div><\/p>\n<p>Jurado and Swift specialize in creating lush, layered audioscapes, a trend they established with <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.secretlycanadian.com\/onesheet.php?cat=SC192\">Saint Bartlett<\/a><\/em> (2010), their first album together. On <em>Maraqopa<\/em>, they playfully intersperse chimes throughout several of the songs, and utilize different backup singers for choruses and vocal harmonies as they do in &#8220;Life Away from the Garden&#8221; and &#8220;Working Titles.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s such a range of songs and sounds, but there&#8217;s always Jurado&#8217;s voice and guitar\u2014so sincere, so nostalgic sounding\u2014that make them authentic.
